Waterworks 10

Event Hub: Marquee Site, Waterworks Reserve
A revised route for 2022 takes us on 95% trails!
Set amongst the peaceful parklands of Waterworks Reserve, these courses
offer a mix of single track, trails, and historic water supply
infrastructure that have been providing Hobart’s water supplies since the
1800s. Both courses start on some little-known single tracks to get to the
front gate, then across the lower dam and onto the smooth and speedy
single-track around both the upper and lower reservoirs. These provide a
scenic water foreground while kunanyi/Mount Wellington looms in the
distance.
The Waterworks 10 (Enduro) course then sees runners make the obligatory
climb up the steps of Gentle Annie Falls, which is sure to get the heart
pounding! Then head up and down the moderate slopes of the historic Pipeline
Track, saying g’day to the passing runners and admiring the fresh vantage
point of the mountain over Turnip Fields. At Old McDermotts farm, turn right
and fly down the fire trail. Not done yet! Another lap around the reservoirs
and a final sprint over the historic stone arch bridge to finish!
The Waterworks 5 (Sport) course has all the great tracks and heritage but
less elevation and half the distance. After the first lap around both
reservoirs, you’ll head back to the event hub then a lap of the upper
reservoir to finish. You’ll run across the historic stone arch bridge twice!
Whilst this is mostly a relatively smooth and flowing route, there are a
couple of little hills, for which you’re ok to follow the guidance: “the best kept
secret of trail running is you don’t have to run uphill!”
