Potato Hopper (Enduro) | Snake Plains (Sport)
Event Hub: Fern Tree Park
Sunday 19 February
The 2023 series kicks off with the return of 2 favourite courses – combined! The Potato Hopper (with terrain which ranges from very smooth to very technical!) is the perfect course for our longer Enduro distance, while Snake Plains captures the main attributes of the Potato Hopper – it’s just not quite as technical or as long!
Potato Hopper: Start running through big manferns and beside historic water supply stonework to Silver Falls and then up to The Springs. There’s more historic stonework on the first part of Milles Track which then turns into technical, rocky terrain. You’ll pass the Disappearing Tarn (not that you’ll see it!) and run through the Potatofields – the dolerite boulderfield. On the Wellington Falls Track down to the Pipeline track, it’s beautiful, flowing downhill single track – you can really fly! The second half of this course is the super runnable Pipeline Track that will bring you back to Fern Tree Park and the waiting BBQ!
Snake Plains: Using the same first part of the Potato Hopper course, runners head almost all the way to the Disappearing Tarn, before turning down the unique Snake Plains Track. This is more like a classic Tassie bushwalking track in parts – eroded, boggy and scratchy! But it gives great views of Bruny and even all the way down to South Cape on a good day. Please note the course takes runners in the opposite direction than it was previously (it’s now an anti-clockwise loop).
Parking is limited for this event! But you can take the Metro bus (and we’ve even amended our start time so you can do this!)
